Ascot Hats Winter Racing Carnival 2011


In the Winter it's Queensland's turn to host Australia'a best racing at the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. The Winter Racing Carnival is held in May and June annually by the Brisbane Racing Club, Gold Coast Turf Club, Ipswich Turf Club and Sunshine Coast Turf Club with major feature races taking place at all race tracks. The major Group One feature races in Brisbane are the Doomben 10,000 which takes place at Doomben racecourse in May and the $1Million Stradbroke Handicap held at Eagle Farm in June. Both of these races attract quality sprinters from the southern states of Australia and the honor roll for both races sees many a good horse's name etched upon it.

Gold Coast Turf Club Prime Minister's Cup, Gold Coast Guineas and Hollindale Stakes


The first big carnival day kicks off at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Prime Minister's Cup Day. Ascot Hats are there to soak up the Gold Coast sunshine and vibrant colours of the millinery designs at Fashions on the Field.

The winter carnival moves on to the Brisbane Turf Club Cup where this year the Doomben Racecourse show cased the first Queensland appearance of the mighty mare Black Caviar trained by Peter Moody from Caulfield. She came, she saw and she conquered! What an amazing day for the champions of racing with a capacity crowd in attendance.

The Doomben Cup and Doomben Roses Day sees the Winter Racing Carnival stretch it's legs to put on a show like no other. The best horses from interstate have arrived and the fashion stakes are increasing with each week of the Carnival.

Brisbane Turf Club Doomben Ten Thousand, Premiers Cup and Grand Prix Stakes


The following week it is Doomben Ten Thousand Day when all the stops are pulled and the great race is set to run at Doomben Racecourse. The Doomben 10,000 is a Group 1 weight-for-age race run over a distance of 1350 metres and worth $650,000 in prizemoney. The mighty mare Beaded is there to take the prize. Ascot Hats are out in force with the feature hats exhibiting beautiful millinery in vibrant colours.

Brisbane Turf Club Oaks, QTC Cup and Eagle Farm Cup


The Carnival moves to the Eagle Farm Race Course for Oaks Day, known as 'ladies day', set for a grand spectacle of racehorses and millinery. The Queensland Oaks is a Group 1 classic race for fillies over a distance of 2400 meters under set weight conditions and worth $400,000 in prize-money. The Group One three-year-old classics, the Queensland Derby and Queensland Oaks, are great events at the Winter Carnival. Trainers from the southern states are enticed to head north in the hope of winning an Oaks or Derby. The 2011 Queensland Oaks, is won by Scarlet Lady! Ascot Hats have the day stitched up with many representatives on track.

The Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm is the Winter Racing Carnival premier day for millinery and thoroughbred champions. Beautiful Ascot Hats adorn the heads of ladies all over the racetrack. It was a chilly day for Brisbane and the ladies turned out in their furs and feathers for the occasion.

Ipswich Cup Day at Ipswich Turf Club is one of the most sought after events. It is an experience like no other. A big crowd gathers at the Bundamber race track west of Brisbane on a chilly winter day. Ascot Hats turn out beautiful winter felt and velvet millinery for the day.

It is the winter solstice and what better to do in the dead of winter in Brisbane than attend the Tattersalls Cup. It is a Group 3 open handicap race that takes place at Eagle Farm Racecourse. The race is run over a distance of 2200 metres and worth $200,000 in prize money. Held on the final day of the Eagle Farm racing carnival, the Tattersall's Cup is held alongside the Group 1 Tattersall's Tiara and Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes. Millinery fashion is a focus of the day and Ascot Hats millinery has a touch of fur, feathers and leather to warm the winter day.

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club's Corbould Park Racecourse is located north of Brisbane. It features the Caloundra City Cup and the Glasshouse Handicap on the last day of the Winter Carnival. A great carnival day with the vibrant racing fraternity of the Sunshine Coast. Beautiful winter sun suits the fine style of Ascot Hats millinery.
