In the Winter it's Queensland's turn to host Australia'a best racing at the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. The Winter Racing Carnival is held in May and June annually by the Brisbane Racing Club, Gold Coast Turf Club, Ipswich Turf Club and Sunshine Coast Turf Club with major feature races taking place at all race tracks. The major Group One feature races in Brisbane are the Doomben 10,000 which takes place at Doomben racecourse in May and the $1Million Stradbroke Handicap held at Eagle Farm in June. Both of these races attract quality sprinters from the southern states of Australia and the honor roll for both races sees many a good horse's name etched upon it.

The winter carnival moves on to the Brisbane Turf Club Cup where this year the Doomben Racecourse show cased the first Queensland appearance of the mighty mare Black Caviar trained by Peter Moody from Caulfield. The following week it is Doomben Ten Thousand Day when all the stops are pulled and the great race is set to run at Doomben Racecourse. The Doomben 10,000 is a Group 1 weight-for-age race run over a distance of 1350 metres and worth $650,000 in prizemoney. The mighty mare Beaded is there to take the prize. Ascot Hats are out in force with the feature hats exhibiting beautiful millinery in vibrant colours.

The Carnival moves to the Eagle Farm Race Course for Oaks Day, known as 'ladies day', set for a grand spectacle of racehorses and millinery. The Queensland Oaks is a Group 1 classic race for fillies over a distance of 2400 meters under set weight conditions and worth $400,000 in prize-money. The Group One three-year-old classics, the Queensland Derby and Queensland Oaks, are great events at the Winter Carnival. Trainers from the southern states are enticed to head north in the hope of winning an Oaks or Derby. The 2011 Queensland Oaks, is won by Scarlet Lady! Ascot Hats have the day stitched up with many representatives on track.
